As Prescribed Director Holly Hardman shares a few quick thoughts on preferred leadership for our degraded human health system

Shortly after the election, I attended the ThinkFOOD conference at Bard College at Simon’s Rock. Marion Nestle was the keynote speaker. Wow, she was magnificent! So much of her presentation was devoted to the causes of our unhealthy food supply.
She shared a hope that the new administration with RFK Jr as head of HHS might offer some change for the better. She also shared her reservations. One positive she noted is the growing conversation about ultra-processed foods, which author Nestle has been writing about for years. But, as you can determine from the video, using the preferred nomenclature doesn’t guarantee that this administration will head in the right direction. Will Big Ag and Big Pharma be disallowed from buying political power? Are we even close to being on track to the removal of money from politics and the purchase of governmental influence?
It was encouraging to hear Prof. Nestle speak about hopes for more research on food/diet, also mentioning metabolic syndrome. If funded, these studies could make a huge difference in mental health diagnosing and treatment. Treat with food. The right food. Versions of a ketogenic diet are helping so many rediscover their (mentally) healthy selves.
The need to better understand and treat psychotropic drug harm, as well as so many of our pressing health issues, is crucial. Will the health org and nonprofit funding slashes under Trump continue?
If our governments aren’t truly ready to lead us there, we’ll rely on public health visionaries like Marion Nestle to guide the way.
