Volunteer Program

As Prescribed

Overview

The volunteer program for As Prescribed is designed to foster community engagement and provide an opportunity for individuals affected by benzodiazepine use to be part of the film’s impact campaign. The volunteer program will be structured around raising awareness about the film and its important message, as well as creating a support network where participants can share their experiences, advocate for change, and help amplify the film’s impact.

Volunteer Program Structure

To apply to the volunteer program, you will be asked to complete a simple online form, which includes questions about your connection to the film’s themes, your interest in supporting the impact campaign, and any accommodations you may need.

Volunteers will be asked to participate for a minimum of 6 months and will receive a certificate of completion from the film team to verify their participation. This can be used on a resume or as part of a job application process.

Objectives

Program Requirements

  • Specific tasks will be assigned with deadlines in order to provide a clear structure, while providing flexibility for those with health concerns or varying capacities.
    • There will be 2-3 tasks per month assigned.
  • We will document the completion of these tasks and that will be part of the certificate of completion that you will receive after 6 months.

Personal Testimonials

  • You can share your personal story, which may be featured as testimonials to amplify the voices of people who have been harmed by benzodiazepines.
  • Video testimonials will be collected, edited, and shared on YouTube and social media to raise awareness about the issues presented in the film and underscore how many people have been harmed by benzodiazepines.
  • You will have the option to choose whether your names are publicly listed or remain anonymous.

Awareness for the Film

  • You will be asked to share the film with your personal and online networks to help raise awareness about BIND and the overprescription of benzodiazepines.
  • You will have the opportunity to use the film (if you so choose) to advocate for policy change in your local community. We will help guide and support these efforts for anyone interested.

Opportunities for Leadership

  • There will be opportunities for leadership for people interested in taking on more of a commitment.
  • We will have Team Leaders that will charged with supporting a group of volunteers, facilitating communication, and ensuring the completion of assigned tasks.

Program Benefits

Objectives

  • Develop skills such as leadership, organization, and communication, which can be added to resumes.
  • Participate in regular check-ins, including potential monthly Zoom meetings, to stay engaged and connected with the team.
  • Receive ongoing support and guidance based on skills and interests.

Community Building and Support

A key aspect of the program is building a supportive community for people who have been harmed by benzodiazepines. We will facilitate opportunities for volunteers to connect with each other virtually via group Zooms, and we will also provide contact information for anyone that is willing to share in the event that connection outside the group is desired.

Resume Boost and Work Experience

Many individuals who have suffered benzodiazepine harm and BIND have lost time in their work history and are looking for an opportunity to have meaningful experience that they can use as they re-enter the workforce. We want to help provide an avenue to develop skills and prove consistent work history that can be useful for people as they seek job opportunities.

Next Steps

We are launching the volunteer program in mid-October and are currently developing new content and a webpage dedicated to the volunteer program. If you’re interested in contributing, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Help shape the program’s design.
  • Take leadership roles in community building efforts.

If you are an individual passionate about raising awareness of the effects of benzodiazepine, we invite you to apply to the As Prescribed volunteer program. Your involvement can make a difference by amplifying stories, spreading awareness, and supporting this very important mission.
